After Effects 5: Infographics
In preparation for the After Effects workshop I went to the
National Football Museum to collect data to be used in the workshop. My group
is focusing on football in the past, the quote I chose links football and the First
World War. The chosen quote is “The directors had decided that my war
experience had finished me as a footballer… I was twenty-three, suspect in health,
and, worst of all, unwanted at Sunderland.” Said by James Seed, manager at
Milwall 1958. For the background I created a no mans land inspired space, with
a bleak and empty look to it. I added barbed wire and created a pattern for a football
to be used in the scene too. Below is the artwork I created to take to the
workshop.

During the workshop I added the text and animated it into
the scene using some of the After Effects
text pre-sets, the one I used was Fade
Character In. Using the football pattern I had previously created I made the
football pattern into a 3D sphere, the only 3D shape that can be made in After
Effects. Below is the finished animation.
