After Effects 4: Z Space
In the fourth After Effects workshop we experimented with the
camera and the way you can occupy 3d space. The aim of the workshop was to use
a landscape you had created on Illustrator and get the camera to travel through
it as the different layers revealed themselves. I created a L. S. Lowry
inspired landscape with a factory and terraced houses. Manipulating the path of
the camera so it started at the back of the scene with just the factory in shot
and then slowly panning out to reveal the houses too. An effect was also added
to make it look like the different elements of the scene (the factory and terraced
houses) were being rolled up into the scene. This was done by using the Page Turn
effect (found in Effects > Distort > CC Page Turn). Below is the
Landscape I created before the workshop for the animation, followed by the
final animation from the workshop.
