Cinema 4D 2: Textures and Surfaces
In the second Cinema 4D workshop
we focussed on textures and surfaces you can create in the software and
completed three tasks within it. The first of the three was creating a tunnel with
spheres shooting down it. We did this by creating an extruded rectangle for the
tunnel, adding a twist and a checkerboard material to it to make it more
interesting. We also experimented with alternative shapes to a simple
rectangle. We then created a sphere, which we added again a checkerboard
material to, but this time adding a reflection to the surface as well. Using
the emitter and controlling the gravity laws in Cinema 4D we made the spheres
become particles that were randomly emitted down the length of the tube.
The second task was adding a
noise effect to a plane. We took a flat plane, added a displacer and noise
shading, initially in black and white. Then adding a material to it with a
gradient through several colours so when animated the wave of colours flow
seamlessly.
The third task was a cloth technique.
This began by creating a cube, adding the cloth tag to it, then editing the
wind and gravity to alter how the ‘cloth’ flowed. We added a material to it
with a colour and an element of transparency (alpha). This cube layer was
duplicated, a separate material added, and the wind settings ever so slightly
changed so they both flowed together weaving in and out of each other. Below
are some stills and short animations from tasks one, two and three
respectively.
